Mary Kate van den Berg is an award-winning film producer who brings diverse knowledge from her creative work spanning over 15 years on independent film, docuseries, commercial, and music video projects.

Mary Kate founded her film production company HALF/HALF in 2020, with narrative projects that have premiered in over 30 film festivals worldwide - including SXSW, Fantasia, Beyond Fest, Fantastic Fest, and Berlin Critics’ Week. She works in the horror space with DEAD MEAT to develop and produce horror media - including series, podcasts, interviews, and screenings that promote horror filmmakers and celebrate the genre. Projects and collaborations include work with studios such as NEON Rated, Universal Pictures, Sony Pictures, and Lionsgate.

Mary Kate is currently in post-production on an independent horror feature. She is also in pre-production on an independent dramedy feature, with a slate of other narrative projects in development. She loves collaborating with creatives and believes that equal opportunities for storytelling can make an impact in our communities.

Film - Featured Work

BITS, written and directed by Lilliya Scarlett Reid, had a World Premiere at SXSW (2024 DEADLINE Article) and screened worldwide - winning the Directorial Discovery Award at Flickers' Rhode Island International Film Festival and most recently featured in Berlin Critics’ Week 2025. It stars Betsey Brown, featuring Morgan Krantz and Jon Gries. The film premiered online (2025) as a Vimeo Staff Pick.

WILD CARD, written and directed by Tipper Newton, played in 26 film festivals worldwide, including Fantasia International Film Festival, Fantastic Fest, Palm Springs International Film Festival, and Beyond Fest (2022). The film stars Tipper Newton and Billy Flynn. It premiered online (2023) via Short of The Week.
